A Gigabyte of Wealth October 30, 2008

If soldiers have their gun and nuns have their rosary, I always have my “worn out” 3-year old 1 GB trusted flash drive with me. I use it to backup my important files, for emergency downloads and other contingency measures for a geeky-techie like me (I love the way it rhymes…). I’m wondering what kind of flash drive does Mark Zuckerberg (he’s the world’s youngest billionaire) or Bill Gates and the other rich-to-the-brim-with-overflowing-money people have.
Well, the Swissmemory Prestige has given me the answer. Swissmemory Prestige has a collection of 1 Gigabyte flash drives that fold into housing made of 925-sterling silver or 18-karat white and yellow gold. If Paris Hilton would not be contented to that, there is always the option of including diamonds on the casings. The latest craze for this flashy flash drive is the Pave model, which features glittering diamonds on the top of the shinny white and yellow gold.
Interested in knowing the price? Brace yourself. Swallow your coffee or whatever you have in your mouth first before you read the next sentence, you might get choked. This flashy, shinny 1GB flash drive cost a cool $23,000.00. Yep, you read it right, there is a dollar sign ($) before the number meaning it is US dollar. It is equivalent to a 17,466.79 Euro or 2,263,060.78 or Japanese Yen or 943,000.000 Philippine Peso or 29,908,364.79 Korean Won. The good thing about this flashy flash drive is that, the flash drive itself (storage area) can be removed for easy upgrading like changing its storage capacity to 1TB. So you still can have you’re your Swissmemory Prestige for a quite sometime, and if you have the guts, you can try wearing it as a pendant but I guess you have to use a stud-link chain used in forklift for safekeeping purposes.
I’m wondering if computer viruses can identify a cheap flash drive like mine from those flashy gold and diamond studded flash drive from Swissmemory Prestige? I guess not, they could also be infected by those damn irritating viruses, worms and Trojans.
When Sinophobia becomes SinoPRODdia October 28, 2008

Sinophobia? Have you heard it?
Sinophobia? It is somewhat a new terminology, like you, I’m as well surprise that there is a thing (phobia) like that. According to Wikipedia, Sinophobia (from Latin Sinae “the Chinese” + Ancient Greek φόβος -phobos, “fear”) or anti-Chinese sentiment is a fear or dislike for China, its people, or its culture. Sinophobia can affect both the actions and attitudes of individuals, and the policies and pronouncements of governments and other organizations. The word Sinophobia started when there was a vast illegal entry of Chinese immigrants in Europe and in America. Even countries in Asia have suffered from Sinophobia when some Chinese seek refuge to its neighboring country when the Communist took reign in China.
In World War II, Sinophobia strikes again when the US forces and its allies were swamped by the Chinese force during the Korean War. This had caused the US and its allied country to back-off. This event had caused the US to fear a Chinese invasion of Communism all over the Asian continent, which they actually tried. Asian countries, including Philippines were watchful of Chinese illegal entries; illegal Chinese immigrants were known for using the identities of dead persons.
Recently, the world is again suffering yet another aspect of Sinophobia, this time, it is not about the Communism or the infiltration of illegal immigrant but of the fear of the Chinese made products. It is a brand new fear, which started when some of Chinese product becomes health hazard. I would like to call it the SinoPRODdia, which I would mean the fear of Chinese-made products. I guess, you knew enough about melamine-infested milk product that makes all the moms all over the world to check the package of their baby’s milk. If it is Chinese-made, they chuck it in the trash can because China-made milk product can actually kill due to melamine content. Melamine is a chemical which milk manufacturer adds in order to raise the protein rating of the milk products. Babies have started getting sick, some have actually died.
Before the milk with melamine issue, there was the Chinese-made White Rabbit candy which was found to contain chemicals harmful to health. How could I forget that gross news about MaLing (my favorite Chinese-made meat product)? It was reported that they uses rat meat in making Mahling. I nearly throw up when I saw that news and vow to never buy MaLing again. Then there were the Chinese-made toys, including Fisher-Price and Mattel, which was found to have a high lead content which is hazardous to health.
Chinese-made electrical materials was often observed as the caused of fire because of its substandard quality. This Christmas season we have to be careful of buying substandard Christmas lights because they usually cause electrical mishaps. And of course, there are fake (imitations) gadgets made in China which is, mostly that not, have a lifespan of 1 month.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not discriminating Chinese in general; I’m just angry with those greedy manufacturers who don’t give a damn about the damage they could make as long as they could make hefty profit. They don’t care if babies get sick and die, or people get hurt because of their hazardous product. China is a great country, and Chinese are great people, they are a lot of things which the world would be thankful to China, but what is happening now is very alarming. China becomes the center of the Greedy Commercialism, which disregard ethical and moral standards for the sake of MONEY. If these trends continue Sinophobia would be on its heights, everybody would fear any Chinese made product. If this happens, what do you think will happen to China?

Amy Nobleza who is known as Ana Mae “Amy” Libot in real life is the 2nd Placer in the recently concluded Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 – Little Dreamer Edition. Amy is a 6-year old girl from Las Pinas City, a little girl with a very powerful voice. Amy standout from the rest of the Pinoy Dream Academy – Little Dreamer because of her size, she is one of the younger among the little scholars and she is the smallest. As been said before, great things comes in small packages. I was really amazed with this girl talent when I first was this Youtube video clip. Amy is a total performer, she can sing as well as she can dance. I’ve seen her sing the Tina Turner hit What’s Love Got To do With It, and wow, I can’t believe I’m watching a 6-year old girl. Amy can perform like a pro. I guess Ellen Degeneres, feels the same way like I do because she wanted to invite this little girl to sing in her show.
Another little girl had amazed me before, she is Connie Talbot, finalist in Britain’s Got Talent, a popular talent show in UK. Connie is also 6-years old when she joined the contest, a very good singer also especially right now that she’d develop her voice and learned some techniques. A very pretty little girl with a beautiful smile and a voice so sweet like an angel that could make you forget about the ugliness of the world.
Amy Nobleza vs. Connie Talbot, who is better? Both of them are very good, actually so good for their age but looking with unbiased eye Amy got a little edge in terms of stage presence and performance quality. On the other hand, Connie got the edge in terms of star quality and x-factor, but both Amy and Connie got amazing voice. It is very hard to compare them, becuase its just like comparing Josh Groban and Justin Timberlake.
Watch video of Amy Nobleza vs. Connie Talbot1 and Amy Nobleza vs. Connie Talbot2.
